A few bricks under my porch cap are shifting. Can that area be repaired without removing the concrete top?
Answer
Sometimes, and it depends on whatโs actually moving. We’ve seen porches in Pleasant Ridge develop a small group of bricks that slightly shift out of line while the concrete cap above remains level and intact. If the cap hasn’t cracked or moved and the movement is limited to the outer brick beneath it, that section can often be rebuilt without distrubing the porch cap. If an outward bulge or profound bowing of the bricks beneath continues to develop, that pattern suggests pressure or settlement behind the brick and simply resetting the bricks may not address the underlying cause if the support underneath isn’t sufficient.
