Should I repair the bricks below my downspout first, or fix the drainage issue before replacing any damaged brick?
Answer
I would address both. If you replace the brick but keep dumping water in the same spot, you’re setting yourself up for the same problem again. Fix the source of the water, repair the damaged brick, and you’ll have a much better long-term repair. That might mean extending the downspout, improving drainage, or correcting whatever is allowing excess water to concentrate in that area. Every house is a little different, so we look at what’s causing the deterioration instead of just replacing brick. Solving the cause is just as important as repairing the damage.
