When it rains, I notice the bricks below my downspout stay dark and wet long after the rest of the wall has dried. Does that mean those bricks are absorbing too much water, or is that normal?
Answer
That’s usually not a coincidence. If one area stays wet longer than everything around it, it’s often getting more water than it was designed to handle. We see it quite a bit. The brick below a downspout tends to take a beating because it’s getting hit over and over in the same spot. Eventually the brick starts breaking down. Fixing the brick is important, but correcting the water issue is what keeps it from happening again.
