The mortar between my bricks looks deeper than it used to. Is that a sign tuckpointing is needed?
Answer
Yes, thatโs usually one of the first signs tuckpointing is needed. When the mortar starts wearing back and looks recessed, it means itโs been breaking down over time from weather exposure. Weโve done a lot of tuckpointing in Clinton Township, and this is something we see all the time. Once that mortar erodes, the bond between the bricks weakens and it opens the door for moisture to get in. Tuckpointing replaces that worn-out mortar, seals everything back up, and helps protect the wall from further damage.
