My father pointed out crumbling bricks on my detached garage where there is a brick planter. I don't use the planter, it was just there when our house was originally built. Can I just have the planter removed?
Answer
Yes, but there are a few things you should be aware of before you make a final decision. 1) The planter is likely tied into your garage wall. So when the planter is removed, the bricks where the planter is tied into your garage wall will need to be removed & replaced.
2) Assuming there’s soil inside the planter, once the planter is removed, the soil that was sitting against your garage wall likely stained the bricks on the garage wall. So you need to decide if you want to replace those bricks to match the rest of your garage. I would suggest replacing them would be a better option not only cosmetically but because the bricks on either side of the area where the planter ties into the garage wall will be replaced anyway & it’s not that much more work.
