Several bricks near my downspout are cracked. Can that be fixed without making a big project out of it?
Answer
Yes Alicia. Cracked & crumbling bricks near downspouts where rain pours out is a repair that can be isolated. The rain & freeze thaw cycles are the reason. The rain and snow soak into the bricks. That moisture freezes which can cause the bricks to break. A few cycles of that thru the seasons & eventually the bricks give way & fall apart. It’s a straightforward repair. Remove & replace the bricks with matching bricks. It would probably be a good idea to spray the replaced brick with a masonry water repellent & extend your downspout away from that corner after it’s repaired. We’ve done this 100’s of times and so far it has never turned into a big ordeal.
